Murros - The Union of Conservative Students
Murros - The Union of Conservative Students is a politically independent student organization that seeks to promote academic integrity, freedom of association, freedom of speech, and conservative thought within higher education institutions. Here, we outline our core values and objectives in greater detail.
Values
As an organization, we strive to uphold freedom of speech, freedom of association, and academic freedom. We believe that the spread of woke ideology prevents the realization of these freedoms in higher education institutions and promotes the enforcement of "safe spaces," which contradicts the pursuit of knowledge and truth, intellectual honesty, and academic freedom. This must be addressed, as maintaining openness in discussion culture and liberating academic work from ideologies that suppress open dialogue are essential for maximizing knowledge, understanding, and learning within higher education.
We believe that one of the primary purposes of Finnish higher education is to raise the level of intellectual and cultural development (sivistys); the status of the Finnish language as a language of science and teaching must be safeguarded.
All progress is change, but not all change is progress. Therefore, changes should be made cautiously and only when necessary, not for the mere sake of change or due to loud ideological pressure.
We wish to return to the classical academic ideals within higher education. Traditionally, academia has been defined by a pure quest to understand and explain the world: knowledge, understanding, and learning are thus seen as intrinsic values. As an organization, we wish to emphasize these principles by encouraging university students toward independent thinking and open dialogue. Knowledge, understanding, and learning should be regarded as ends in themselves, not merely as instruments for commercial or stakeholder-specific benefits.
Our values are particularly built upon traditional virtues and Christian ethics, as we believe these have served as the foundation for timeless wisdom and realism in the Western world. As an organization, we also cherish long-standing Western and Finnish traditions. People who reject traditions reject the wisdom preserved by previous generations. Therefore, we believe that established traditions have endured for good reasons, and preserving them is essential.

Join Us
As an organization, we aim to provide a space for discussion and debate for conservative students and encourage them to express their thoughts more openly within universities.
Beyond political and academic discourse, we also wish to serve as a meeting place for social interaction and the formation of new friendships. We strive to bring together young people inspired by societal issues and to show that you have never been alone in the university world with your traditional values or conservative views.
A person who accepts the purpose of the organization and wishes to act in accordance with its rules may be accepted as a full member. Additionally, to be eligible for full membership, the individual must have a valid study right at a Finnish higher education institution.
Graduated full members automatically become supporting members upon the completion of their degree. Anyone who supports the organization’s objectives may be accepted as a supporting member.
Note: We currently operate mostly in Finnish, and our events are held in Finnish. However, everyone is welcome to join, and we are happy to engage in discussions in English as well.
